HOW TO ROAST OUR MOST POPULAR BEAN BALI BLUE

Roasting coffee beans from Bali, Indonesia, follows the same basic principles as roasting beans from any other origin. However, the exact roasting process may vary depending on the specific characteristics of the beans and the desired flavor profile.

Here are the general steps for roasting coffee beans:

  1. Start by preheating your roasting equipment to the desired temperature. For Bali coffee, a medium to medium-dark roast is common, so you might set the temperature to around 400-425°F (205-218°C).

  2. Once the roaster has reached the desired temperature, add the green coffee beans to the roasting drum. You'll want to add enough beans to fill the drum but not so many that the beans are crowded.

  3. Begin roasting the beans, and monitor the temperature and color of the beans carefully. The length of the roast and the desired roast level will depend on your personal preference and the flavor profile of the beans.

  4. During the roast, the coffee beans will undergo various chemical changes, such as the Maillard reaction and caramelization, which contribute to the development of the coffee's flavor and aroma. Listen for the sounds of the roasting process as well, the beans will make a cracking sound at different stages of the roasting process.

  5. Once the beans have reached the desired roast level, remove them from the roaster and immediately transfer them to a cooling tray or colander to cool down.

  6. Let the beans rest for a few hours to a few days before brewing them, as this allows the flavors to develop further.
